Learning to rely solely on yourself for approval in your life is an empowering step.
The fact of the matter is that everyone around you has different ideas about life. These ideas are heavily based upon belief systems and life experiences. No two people will ever perceive the world in exactly the same way. At the end of the day, we all desire to find our own version of peace and happiness, and the only person who truly knows what that is, is you.
When we stop looking outward for approval and acceptance and we move those check systems inward, we are no longer losing time to trying to live our lives to please others. And without all of the confusion caused by conflicting opinions and the often resultant difficult decision-making, we can put that energy into figuring out what we want in life and then working towards those goals. On top of that, it’s beneficial to commit to making zero apologies to anyone else for your own life choices. The only person you should be accountable to for how your life unfolds is you.
Most of us have at least one person who feels compelled to tell us how to live our lives on a regular basis. They may even become upset or angry with you if you don’t follow their directions. The issue is theirs, not yours. Make no apologies. Live your life your way. You’re the only one who has to truly be content with your choices at the end of each day. It’s easy for other people to tell you what your next move should be when they don’t have to live with any of the consequences, real and emotional, as a result. So if you always make your decisions based upon your wants, needs, interests, preferences, etc., and not someone else’s, it makes everything a lot simpler. Obviously, when it comes to partners and children, there are additional considerations involved, but that doesn’t mean that you should simply get lost in the shuffle. There are happy balances to be found.
Making the move to looking within for approval in your life takes a bit of time, based upon how dependent you were on others to start with. Trust and believe in yourself and your ability to navigate your existence on this big planet of ours. In time, it will become a routine that you embrace. Always remember that you know yourself better than anyone, and you are the captain of your own ship. Happy sailing!
